Jay Maisel was an American photographer born January 18, 1931 in Brooklyn, New York City, where he attended Abraham Lincoln High School where he studied under Leon Friend. He studied painting and graphic design at Cooper Union and Yale in Manhattan, becoming a photographer in 1954.
With a career spanning more than six decades, Jay Maisel's name has become synonymous with vibrant color photography as he uses light and gesture to create countless memorable images in advertising, editorial and corporate marketing. Some of his advertising credits include the cover of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue, the first two issues of New York magazine, and the cover of Miles Davis' Kind of Blue.
