Painting the Local Customs and Seeing the Colors: Touching Snakes, China and the US Joint Exhibition
See the colorful landscape of Taiwan
The geographical features, climatic conditions and building materials have created the unique lifestyles of different parts of Taiwan, forming the so-called "cultural landscape".
From the color of the soil and plants to the colors of buildings, clothing, and festival decorations, what we see every day is a visual language interwoven with nature and culture.
As color geographer Jean-Philippe Lenclos said, by observing the intersection of nature and humanity and examining colors, we can identify the scenic vocabulary of a place.
Color Research × Schoolchildren's Field Trip × Touching Snake Creation
This exhibition is a joint collaboration between the National Museum of Fine Arts and the Xuexue Cultural and Creative Foundation . It selects 15 archival paintings as its starting point, including the local colors of "mountains, sea, houses, flowers, and fruits" depicted by artists such as Shiy Dejinn, Yuan Shuzhen, Xu Shenzhou, and Guo Baichuan.
The exhibition combines:
- Artists' perspectives : Shiy De-jinn's depictions of architecture and blank spaces, and Kuo Bo-chuan's use of tropical light to capture fruit and street scenes.
- Fieldwork with local students : Students from 12 elementary and middle schools in Nantou, Miaoli, Yunlin, Changhua, and Taichung visited their hometowns, photographed and collected the colors and patterns around them, and created cross-media works.
Touching Snake × Contemporary Local Design
This exhibition uses the "Moving Snake" designed by artist Zhuang Pu as the creative medium. Inspired by the Paiwan people's hundred-step snake pattern, it symbolizes transformation, agility and cultural continuity.
Highlights include:
- Three artists (Lian Jianxing, Lu Xianming, and Pan Yu) used the colors of the collection as inspiration to create the moving snake painting
- 296 students created the "Moving Snake" artwork using the colors of their hometowns, showcasing the application of color in contemporary life and design.
Let cultural colors exist not only in memories
We are very grateful to the Xue Xue Cultural and Creative Foundation for coming to Nantou to learn about our metal imaging output technology. We are also very grateful to Xue Xue for their trust in us and for giving us the opportunity to become the educational partner of this exhibition and assist in the production of some of the exhibits.
We believe that every observation of cultural color is a real and unique memory in life.
In this collaboration, "Painting Local Culture, Seeing Color," we saw how places tell stories through color and how children develop their creative visions based on observation. These works aren't just part of an exhibition; they are microcosms of culture to be treasured, deeply felt, and even passed down.
Weisi Image will continue to use image output technology to preserve the colors of creation, and allow the inspiration and memories from the land to be seen and touched for a longer time.
